90MJext's build

I acquired a 1990 Comanche Eliminator, 2wd, 4.0 auto, about three years ago for $0. It had been abandoned and picked up by a buddy (wrecker company), long story short he gave it to me. It has sat in the garage waiting for me to make my mind up and money. I have been lurking for awhile and will be using quite a few peoples builds as references: Wrenches gone Wild/Mild, Drahcir495's Build-up, Project Onyx, to name a few

My intentions are to have a dependable truck that looks decent and functions properly that can be possibly passed down to my grandson(jury still out on that one).

Things that I want to do:

Removed the windshield trim, wipers, cowl to remove the windshield.

I used a flat tip screwdriver on the passenger lower corner and pried up. I lifted the windshield up and pressed from the inside with my hand with no resistance, until i go to the driver side top and the windshield cracked.

I know now why the carpet is screwed up.

the passenger door, '00, had been put on earlier when I got a spurt to do something.

Where's N Georgia? ( I know north duh ) but looks like alot of solid comanches left in this state.

Make sure you post a few "before" pictures of the truck. I always love to see how the project started out ;) . That sucks about the windshield. My windshield was the cause of all my floor rust :fs1: . I hope you can get one of those S10 bumpers on it soon; I am dying to see a write up on it. JohnQ said at one time he was attempting to do the same thing. You may want to hit him up for some input. Keep us posted on the build-up, it should be very interesting :cheers: - Rich

jtdesigns - looking for the light bar, a little steep at the dealership, If I can't find it in the junkyard will probably buy the housing and go from there.

I got the D44 off the truck with the cherry picker and some chain. It was pretty easy too, great idea you had!

I found them on carparts.com in a few places,, trick is searching for "roof" on 02-06 Renegades. :thumbsup:

---small update---

started removing the windshield trim pins, all but removed the engine wiring harness (PO really hacked the hell out of the harness), removed the header panel, pass fender.

moving slowly, honey do's keep getting in the way. More later.

still looking for a Colorado rear bumper, picked up a '98 S10 bumper for 50.00.

Turned it around so I can get the motor out. Removed the front bumper, breaking all four of the clips.

Started disconnecting the wiring from the motor and draining fluids.

removed old bumper leaving the brackets attached to the truck. 15mm socket and wrench.

Switched the brackets on the S10 bumper. there are four bolts, two are accessible from the bottom of the bumper 3/4 socket,

the other two you have to remove the plastic cap, I started on the end and slowly pried with a screwdriver

remove cap and expose the other bolts, 3/4.

I switched the brackets loosely tightened, "C" facing towards the center,

to see where I needed to cut the S10 brackets, removed the brackets and measured approximately 5 1/8 from the edge

reinstalled the brackets, loosely tighten bolts, and placed the bumper on the truck bumper brackets for mock up and alignment

haven't decided if I going to weld the "new" brackets to the "old" or bolt them. Later I will check to see if I can drill holes for the upper bolts in the "old" bracket in case of removal later on.

Hey nice rear bumper. :brows: Kinda reminds me of mine. I did the same EXACT process. I welded mine, it was the easiest solution. Worked for me. :thumbsup:

got the motor/trans out 02/24/2009 took it to the scrapper today.

completed the first bay cleaning with degreaser and oven cleaner.

once I finish stripping the interior I'll address the rusty areas, small areas on the passenger side floorboard (no holes) and the battery tray/frame area.

all new steering linkage from NAPA. awaiting delivery

97 ZJ OHC, WJ LCA, ZJ V8 steering gearbox and front swaybar for 100.00

I've also had a chance to disconnect and start removing the Dana 35.

haven't posted in a while a little progress:

cleaned up the ZJ power steering gearbox (awaiting paint),

ZJ LCA (painted- done),

pressed out ball joints (PITA),

burned out axle bushing,

Stripped paint on frt axle with aircraft stripper (awaiting paint)

cut bracket off 8.8 (awaiting to be paint stripped)

will post pics later

picked up my "new" intrument cluster, from a turbo coupe and will pick up the motor, tranny and wiring harness this weekend.

Finally after a loong delay got my front axle back in, all poly bushings are in except for shackles. Picked my motor up again and two wiring harness. Been working on a new cluster since the '00 cluster will not work with my motor, obd1+obd2=X, plexiglass and auto meter gauges using the '00 overlay.
