Title kind of explains itself. Very cool, but too bad it has a repair title, and was welded together not just converted.

IIRC, in illinois in order to drive it, it has to have a free and clear title. I tried some loopholes once, ended up at a wall. Unless things have changed. So for me, a repair title might as well mean un-repairable or salvage.

i just found this and was about to put it on, when i saw yours, yea its a pretty good conversion, I like how they did the bench seat and the moldings in the back

It's two rigs welded together. Sounds kinda sketchy to me.

It looks incredibly well done.

I wonder how much of a pain it was to lengthen the rear bumperettes.

That thing looks pretty awesome. If the "frames" were welded together well it's perfect. I would love to see it in person and i'm local as well.

If you're local, go take a peek. I sure would if I were close. And crawl underneath and check out how the two dissimilar "frames" were joined; bracing, fabbed bracketry, gusseting, everything. Oh, and take some pics. I'd really like to see how it was done. :cheers:

WOW, Looks like no details were left out! From what I see, it has a ZJ or WJ (maybe?) steering wheel and guage cluster. The tailgate looks impressive. Double fuel tanks are very cool and had to take some work, I want a second tank but decided it would just be something to get hung up on while offroad. The extended plastic bumper end caps had to take quite a bit of work. Bench seat is pretty cool, I'd like to see if headrests were added or if it is just a bracket modified XJ bench, but I doubt it as the rest of the truck is cherry. I wouldn't be too hesitant about the frame splicing as long as its done right, I just want to know why the did that rather than just put the new body panels on. Worth more than the bidding is at right now IMO. I would pay up to 12,000 for that if it is in the quality and condition it looks to be in. :chillin:

EDIT: I see one careless imperfection, At the back of the cab, on the plastic molding there is a door cutout (place where the molding folds in to allow the door to open) in the molding where there shouldn't be.

Its a 96-98 ZJ steering column and airbag.

Saw this on NAXJA just surprised that the guy would do all that body work when he could have bolted on the front fenders/header and swapped the doors (minor welding) and bolted in the dash/interior.

There's a ridiculous amount of sheet metal work that could have been totally avoided.

I do like the work in the back to make the tail blend with the 97+ front. And fresh water droplets aside it looks like he did a good job.

Can't stand what he did with the rear bumper ends... they look bent down, obviously he had to do this to suit the higher wheel arch of the MJ... But still if you're going that far with custom work might as well section the plastic bumper ends and add plastic or re-do them in fiberglass. the bend looks bad.

Well done otherwise, just not sure why he did all the extra body work... If you're going to splice an XJ and MJ together you need to end up with at least 2dr Doors for a King cab, or 2 extra doors for a quad cab and a short bed :)

Pretty cool guy and seems to love comanches. He said he's heard about the website, but isn't very computer savy. I'll be heading back friday to snag some pics if its still there. Said he'd be more than happy to let me take a look at it and post up pics here on the board. What would you gusy like to see?

They clearly are not. They are from a 96-98 ZJ(grand cherokee).

Y'know what? I never took a real good look at that wheel. Observation owns me :dunce:

It looks like very well done project , BUT if your going to that much time,effort and money ,why not splice-in a 2 door XJ and get a little extra cab storage space as well as losing that annoying blind spot at the cab rear pillar with the longer side glass ? you would only increase the wheelbase to about the same as a long-box . :idea:

I don't get it. Why would anyone want that? I think I would rather have the Cherokee before the mods. There are still quite few real Comanches out there that with a little effort would look better than that. Plus it would be the real deal.

That looks like a very well thought out and executed swap. Kudo's to the builder. But, that rollbar is so 80's...

(now where's that darn mullet smiley?)
